Bikeability

Everyone in Year 5 and 6 thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the Bikeability project in the Summer Term. Led by instructors from the HCC Cycling team, we all completed Level 1 training, learning to ride safely and control our bikes on the playground. The vast majority then progressed onto Level 2, which saw them get out and about on local roads. You can find out more about the Bikeability scheme, and about what each level involves, on the HCC website.

As the week went on, each group went on longer and more complex rides, exploring local roads, learning to recognise potential dangers and getting used to riding on roads with other traffic. At the end of the week, everyone was presented with their Level 1 and 2 certificates by some of our local councillors, as you can see below. Thanks to kind donations from the community, we were also able to send everyone who didn't have a bicycle of their own home with a roadworthy bike, so they can practice and use their new skills safely around town.

"Pastoral care is strong. Staff ... share the headteacher’s commitment and determination to make sure the school is a ‘safe haven’ and that all pupils feel safe and are well cared for."
