Sporting Success

"Pupils have increased access to a range of sporting activities and events... This is valued by pupils, supports their self-esteem and enables them to learn how to keep themselves fit and healthy."

We’ve really packed-in the sporting events this half-term, with our Football, Hockey, Tag-Rugby and Athletics teams all in action. Topping the list were two appearances at County Finals for our girls sports teams. Firstly, after winning the Stevenge Festival in February, our Indoor Athletics team headed over to Ware for the Herts School Games. The step-up in challenge was clear in every event, but our usual determination and teamwork meant we gave every drop of effort in every race - and as a result we finished 7th out of the whole of Hertfordshire!

In the final week before Easter, it was the turn of our Girls Football team to travel to St Albans for the Hertfordshire Wix Cup Quarter Finals tournament, where we represented Stevenage. The girls played amazingly and Sara in particular received some fantastic compliments from the organisers and opposition coaches. The team won one and drew two of their games, which saw them win their group and head to the semi-finals next month!

Elsewhere, our Hockey team took part in the Stevenage Sporting Futures Festival, held at Nobel School. With very little competitive experience behind us, the event was a steep learning curve - but the team really rose to the challenge, thoroughly impressing the Stevenage Hockey Club coaches with their control and passing. After winning their final three group games, the team made it through to the 3rd / 4th place play off - which they won comfortably to finish 3rd overall and collect bronze medals.

Finally, on a very muddy day back at the start of March our Tag-Rugby team were in action at the Stevenage Festival. Our pace, passing and teamwork were once again hugely impressive, and saw us make it through to the semi-finals. We lost out to very strong opponents, but bounced back to win the third place play-off - and collect another set of bronze medals.
