"The quality of teaching and learning in physical education is good. Pupils enjoy participating in sport very much"

Introductionblank

Sport, fitness and academic success all go hand in hand, so at Bedwell we take our PE really seriously. Every class has at least 2 hours of timetabled PE every week, taught by a mixture of class teachers and specialist staff from Rising Stars. We aim to introduce our children to as many sports and actitives as possible, so that they can find the one that suits them, and so that everyone can experience success - and consequently our provision includes everything from fencing to trampolining and street dance to swimming.

As a result of all this, we have built-up a fantastic reputation for sport within the town and, indeed, at County level. In the last three years we have won the Stevenage Netball, Cricket, Basketball, Hockey, Rugby, Indoor Athletics, Lacrosse and Hi-5 Netball tournaments, and in 2016 we reprsented Stevenage at County Finals in Girls Cricket, Athletics, Speed Stacking and Tennis.

Overall, the school is very well equipped for PE, with 2 large halls, extensive fields, outdoor basketball and netball courts and a huge supply of equipment. We ask all children to buy their own School PE kit, which consists of a t-shirt in their House colour and a pair of green shorts - all available from the School Office.

What we've been doing this term blank

  • We thoroughly enjoyed this year’s Sports Week, which presented a great mix of sports we were already familiar with, and activities we had never tried before, as well as our 3 Sports Days. The week (and the weeks that followed, as we chased gaps between some very unpredictable weather) also included a series of cross-phase tournaments, including Year 5/6 and Year 3/4 Hockey Festivals, a trip up to Marriotts for a Year 5/6 High-5 Netball Tournament, and a hectic 3-a-side Football Tournament which saw the whole of Years 3-6 in action...[ read more ]

  • In the last week of term, Mrs Devenish organised a fantastic Mini-Olympics, which saw the whole of Year 1 and 2 heading out onto the field for a morning packed with sports activities. Amongst the sports that we got to try out were football, athletics, tennis, hockey and ball skills, all supported by a team of really helpful Sports Leaders from Year 5... [ read more ]

  • Our Year 5/6 Cricket teams were in action at the Stevenage Festival, with 3 sides (and 24 children) representing the School and showing-off their skills. Some brilliant bowling, in particular, saw two teams make it through to playoffs in the afternoon, with Bedwell 2 finishing as runners-up... [ read more ]

  • Year 5/6's PGL residential trip gave them the chance to try out an amazing range of activities, including zip wire, giant swing and raft building... [ read more ]

  • Our Year 5/6 Indoor Athletics teams performed brilliantly at this year’s Stevenage Festival, with both our Boys and Girls teams securing bronze medals... [ read more ]
