Introductionblank

Bedwell Netball Team has firmly established itself as one of the top sports teams in town over the last few years, winning the Stevenage League three times in the last five years and consistently making the final of the District Cup competition. As well as traditional seven-a-side league and cup competitions, we also take part in mixed High-5 festivals, which see our Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 teams playing a faster, five-a-side version of the game - and last year our Year 3/4 team (pictured below) won the Stevenage Tournament.

Year 5/6 train on Wednesday nights every week with Miss Shaw, while Year 3/4 train on Thursdays with Miss Smith.

We rounded-off the season with a fantastic afternoon at the Stevenage Netball Festival, held at Marriotts School and featuring over 20 teams from across the district. A great start to the event saw us win 2 of our first 3 matches, building our confidence and encouraging us to play with ever more positivity. A narrow loss against The Leys and a wider loss against a very strong St Vincents team saw us finish 3rd in our group and qualify for the 5th/6th playoff, where we overcame Woolenwick 1 to finish in 5th place overall.

The Netball team were back in action against Ashtree (where we were unlucky to be held to a 4-4 draw after having a lot of the ball during the game) and Knebworth, who pulled away in the second half to win by 5 goals, despite some great defensive work by Mo, Kate and Honey.

Our biggest event of the Spring Term was the Stevenage High-5 Netball Tournament. High-5 is a faster, five-a-side version of Netball that ‘s played by mixed teams, with everyone playing in every position over the course of an afternoon - and it’s a sport that we really enjoy too, so we headed to the event, held at Marriotts, with high hopes for the afternoon. Some fantastic play from the whole squad, particularly Ashley, Joe-Lee and Honey, saw us secure impressive wins through the group stage and make our way to the final undefeated. The gold-medal match was a high-quality game, with the lead constantly changing hands - but unfortunately we lost in the final minute of the game, and finished in a hugely impressive second place overall.
