Evacuee Day
x

"Most parents and carers ... would recommend the school to another parent."

Year 5/6’s Evacuee Day linked in with both their humanities theme, which was the Battle of Britain, and their English ‘Genre Shift’ unit of work.

During the morning, all of Year 5 and 6 were split into three groups and were told of our destinations, then we tried to consider what it might feel like to be evacuated away from family and our homes. We got the chance to explore and compare suitcases from different types of people associated with World War 2, including a nurse, a soldier and of course an evacuee.

Afterwards, we made our own gas masks, learning about why they were needed, and finally plotted our journey to our given destination.

A small group of talented year 4 artists designed and then painted Tutankhamun’s sarcophagus. They studied pictures from the original dig and from there outlined the detail in pencil before using acrylic paint to complete it. As you can see on the opposite page, they did a marvelous, job and you can now see the sarcophagus on display outside the staff room.
