Introductionblank

We're big fans of Basketball in Years 5&6, a sport that really promotes all-around fitness and which can be played by children of all shapes and sizes. We practice shooting, dribbling, defence and passing, both indoors and out, using our full-size playground hoops, working on improving skills and stamina. We have a growing reputation for Basketball in town, having been finalists in the Stevenage Tournament for three of the last five years, and twice making it to the County Finals - you can read about how we got on in this year's contest below.

  • Determined to improve on last year's 5th placed finish, the members of our Basketball team enthusiastically headed into school during half-term to put in some extra practice and make sure they were fully prepared for this year's Stevenage Tournament, which took place at Barnwell School in early November.

Once the event kicked-off, we were immediately thrown into a really tough match against Round Diamond (the eventual tournament winners), whose size and strength we struggled to deal with - and, despite some quality play from Daniele and Millie, who kept finding space and shooting opportunities throughout the game, we lost our opening game. After that, however, we found our stride and, with wins over Broom Barns and Knebworth (secured in large part through Victoria's shooting, Cristiano's athleticism and passing and Sara's dominance under the basket) , we finished in second place in our group, which earnt us a place in the third-fourth playoff.

In a nail-biting game, which saw the whole squad making key contributions, we edged-out Lodge Farm, and secured third place - and bronze medals - as a result. It wasn't the result we'd aimed for, but we came away feeling we'd given everything we had, and delighted with the medals we'd recieved.
