We're big fans of Basketball in Years 5&6, a sport that really promotes all-around fitness and which can be played by children of all shapes and sizes. We practice shooting, dribbling, defence and passing, both indoors and out, using our full-size playground hoops, working on improving skills and stamina. We have a growing reputation for Basketball in town, having been finalists in the Stevenage Tournament for three of the last four years, and twice making it to the County Finals - you can read about how we got on in this year's contest below.
- Our Year 5/6 Basketball squad headed to Barnwell School at the start of October to take part in this year’s Stevenage Festival. Having put in extra hours on the training court in preparation, we were determined to give the best performance possible - but a tough draw saw us get off to a rocky start, losing our first game 10-6 against an impressive Giles team, and then dropping behind in our second match against Round Diamond. Great play from Cristiano and Honey got us back in contention, but we narrowly lost 8-6 - meaning that we had to win our remaining three group games to stand any chance of qualifying for the playoffs. The team really stepped-up in our next game, however, and we won out by 4 points - a scoreline that we repeated in the following game against Ashtree. Our final group game saw us facing St Vincents, and strong passing from Alex, Aanshi and Kate saw us over the line, winning 8-2. Unfortunately, after all that we just missed out on a place in the semi-finals on points difference, finishing in 5th place overall.
